Our ROCKIN’ Equipment – The Trampoline

November 20, 2019 | In: Why We Rock

Since 2010, We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym has made it our priority to create a sensory-safe environment that promotes inclusivity and enjoyment. All of our equipment is specially designed to support healthy sensory development for children on the spectrum, as well as neurotypical children. To show you just how much our gym ROCKS, we want to tell you how the trampoline in our gyms promotes positive developmental growth!

Today, the spotlight goes to our ROCKIN’ Springfree® Trampoline! If you’re looking for a fun but a safe way for your kid to release energy, look no further. Your kiddos will have the space to jump around freely and let loose. Best of all, you won’t need to worry about injuries as the Springfree® Trampoline features a flexible safety enclosure and shock absorbent edge to protect your little one from harm’s way.

“A Trampoline is a tremendous addition for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Trampolines exercise the vestibular sense and give all children, especially those with Sensory Processing Disorder, spatial awareness,” says Dina Kimmel, CEO & Founder of We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym, about the benefits of the Trampoline.

All our gyms encourage Play With A Purpose™, a way of play designed to stimulate and exercise the seven senses. The trampoline plays a crucial part in sensory development by strengthening the senses of sight, hearing, vestibular, and proprioception.

• The sense of sight is exercised as our eyes are forced to detect the height difference in order to brace ourselves with each jump. This works the optic system and improves eye coordination.

  • Believe it or not, bouncing on the trampoline exercises hearing. Our ears listen to our surroundings to determine how close we are to objects. This improves our spatial awareness and helps us avoid any obstacles when on the trampoline.
  • Proprioception is the ability to orient our bodies without having to consciously think about where we are relative to our surroundings. Through the repetitive motions of jumping, our body develops gross motor skills and an awareness of the body’s position and movement. Ultimately, our balance and control of joints and muscles are improved.
  • Last but not least, the vestibular sense is intensely trained through the combination of sight, hearing and proprioception. With each jump, our body activates the proper response to movement as we travel in the air. Essentially, our vestibular system is what keeps us upright and balanced so we can keep jumping!

Physical benefits aren’t the only reason why the Trampoline is so great. It stimulates emotional and social skills as well! Learning to jump with others and sharing space in group activities encourages positive socialization. When jumping alone, it provides a sense of personal space and freedom that boosts self-confidence and overall social health. In addition, jumping on the Trampoline creates a calming effect on children. The repetitive action of jumping expels energy and helps them focus their attention on a dynamic activity.

At We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym, safety stands as one of our top priorities. So, we are proud to have partnered with the world’s safest Trampoline, Springfree®! Every Trampoline in our gym features Springfree’s® patented safety design, which eliminates all significant risks associated with trampoline injuries. In addition to their safety enclosure and shock absorbent edge, the Springfree® Trampoline does not use springs. Instead, it uses flexible rods to create the perfect bounce. We love seeing your kiddos grow with us and are excited that we are able to create a safer experience at our gyms.
