7 Reasons Why Our Resource Fair Will Rock!

July 5, 2017 | In: Autism Resources , Events

At We Rock the Spectrum, our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for ALL children. From our sensory kids’ gym to our community events for families, we are constantly challenging ourselves to provide more for our communities.

That’s why we are so excited for our first annual Rockin’ Resource Fair on July 16th! This will be a free event for all, but one specifically aimed at providing resources for children with autism and special needs.

The fair will be an amazing opportunity to unite our community and connect everyone with the best special needs and autism resources in the area. In true We Rock the Spectrum fashion, it will also be a day full of sensory-safe fun for parents and kids!

Here’s are 7 reasons why our Resource Fair will ROCK:

1. The Amazing Family Resources

The goal of the Rockin’ Resource Fair is to promote the continued welfare of children with disabilities. With that in mind, we have teamed up with different special-needs-related businesses and non-profits that help provide much-needed resources to the communities they serve. Organizations like the CSUN Family Focus Resource Center, Newman Aaronson & Vanaman, New York Life, Autism Movement Therapy, and much more will be on-site providing education about their services.

2. Sensory Play

The Sensory Zone will feature the famous mobile version of We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym, We Rock on Wheels! Providing the kiddos with all the fun that’s found in our gyms, the We Rock on Wheels bus comes with the same sensory-safe equipment designed to help children develop key motor skills, improve sensory processing, and learn to better communicate and play with others. In addition to our sensory bus, we will have an additional play area featuring two slides for our kiddos to keep cool on and enjoy together!

To ensure every child’s safety and enjoyment, the Sensory Zone will be fully staffed with trained volunteers on-hand to help the kids at all times.

3. Calming Area

Among all the fun, we will also have the Calming Zone for those who need a break from all the activities going on throughout the fair. Here, you and your kids will have a quiet space to get away and take a breather.

The Calming Zone will be shaded, and complete with beanbag chairs and books. Headphones and other sensory equipment will also be provided should the activities of the fair lead to sensory issues.

4. Food, Food, and more Food!

No community fair is complete without delicious food! Dozens of vendors and food trucks will be on site to provide fares such as grilled cheese, ice cream, donuts, and plenty more! For those with dietary restrictions, we will be offering gluten-free options.

5. Keeping it Cool

In mid-July, you can expect the weather to be hot, but we’ll keep it cool with our various cooling stations all around the fair.

The first will be a big tent to provide much-needed shade for children and parents, as well as a sitting area to relax from a full day of activities! Not to mention, Woodley Park is full of trees, supplying relief from the California sun.

6. The Conductors

We can’t call it a “Rockin’” Resource Fair without some rockin’ entertainment! Family-friendly band, The Conductors, will be treating us to an awesome live performance of their signature rockabilly sound.

Inspired by group leader “Joe Normal” Hutchinson’s son Drayke, who was diagnosed with autism at 3 and a half years old, The Conductors deliver a rockin’ time for children and adults alike. You won’t want to miss them!

7. Full Inclusion

In the end, the goal in creating the Rockin’ Resource Fair is to serve ALL families. This is just one more way for us to give back to our community. To our amazing warrior parents out there, this day is for YOU to be connected with invaluable special needs resources, to find comfort in the camaraderie and support of fellow warrior families in our area, and to know that you will always have a partner in your journey in We Rock the Spectrum as we walk hand in hand toward full inclusion.

Sensory fun and amazing special needs and autism organizations await you at the Rockin’ Resource Fair! As a cherry on top, the first 100 attendees will get a commemorative Rockin’ Resource Fair t-shirt! The fair will take place on July 16th at Woodley Park from 12pm to 5pm. We’ll see you there!
